We needed a \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.wabe.org\u002Fduluth-ai-company-codes-students-for-ethical-practice\u002F\">\u003Cstrong>Quantum Leap\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fa>.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>What began as a 15th-anniversary celebration for N2N evolved into something far more ambitious — a two-day convergence of students, college presidents, CIOs, faculty, and recruiters, all asking the same urgent question:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cblockquote>\u003Cp>\u003Cem>&#8220;What does AI mean for the future of higher education, and what does that future mean for the future of work?&#8221;\u003C\u002Fem>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fblockquote>\n\u003Cp>I didn’t want to talk only about us. That would have been an injustice. The conversation is so much larger than any one company.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>Atlanta: Silicon Valley of the South? Almost.\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>I’ve lived in Atlanta for 16 years. I love this city and what it stands for. With Georgia Tech, Georgia State University, Kennesaw State, UGA, and a thriving ecosystem of community colleges and vocational schools, the talent pipeline is undeniable. Google and Amazon have offices here. NCR is headquartered here.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>But let me be honest: \u003Cstrong>Atlanta still has ways to go.\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cblockquote>\u003Cp>\u003Cem>“If you look at the number of new tech startups coming from Atlanta compared with those from San Francisco, Chicago, or New York — it’s almost insignificant.”\u003C\u002Fem>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fblockquote>\n\u003Cp>The biggest gap isn’t talent. It’s capital. Atlanta is still dominated by what I’d call “legacy money” — investors rooted in telecom, oil and gas, and established industries. We don’t yet have enough software-focused PE firms or venture capital, as Chicago, New York, and San Francisco do. Governor Kemp has done a great job creating a business-friendly environment, and the startup culture is taking shape. But \u003Cstrong>more capital will make Atlanta an even bigger and better tech hub.\u003C\u002Fstrong> That’s the missing piece.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Quantum Leap was my way of saying \u003Cem>we’re not waiting for permission.\u003C\u002Fem> We’re building the future right here, right now.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>The Skills We Thought We Needed? Irrelevant.\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Here’s a truth that should make every hiring manager, educator, and student sit up straight:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cem>“What we thought was needed for a technology professional five years ago is no longer relevant. What we thought was needed three months ago is also no longer relevant.”\u003C\u002Fem>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Five years ago, we were hiring Java, SQL, and JavaScript developers, as well as UI\u002FUX specialists. Today, tools like Cursor, Claude, Codex, and others can do all of that. The technical moat has evaporated.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>So what’s the skill that really matters now?\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>The ability to dream. The ability to learn. The ability to innovate. The ability to adapt.\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>That’s it. That’s the new resume. That realization shaped everything about our hackathon.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>A Hackathon Built on Ethics, Not Just Code\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>We didn’t ask students to build just a software application. Students flew in from Maryland, California, Utah, Mississippi, and beyond. By the end of the event, several students had built a responsible AI application — not in weeks or months, but \u003Cstrong>in hours\u003C\u002Fstrong>.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>We also committed to creating \u003Cstrong>at least 7 new jobs\u003C\u002Fstrong> for participants in the hackathon and job fair, based at our Duluth, Georgia, office.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Because events shouldn’t just inspire — they should employ.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>The Future of Work Isn’t a Panel Discussion. We Acted It Out.\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>One of the most exciting components of Quantum Leap was our \u003Cstrong>Future of Work Job Fair\u003C\u002Fstrong>, and it wasn’t your typical career expo with folding tables and stacks of brochures.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>We built immersive simulations: the restaurant of 2036, the hotel of 2036, the hospital of 2036, and the tech company of 2036. Students acted as future employers \u003Cem>and\u003C\u002Fem> employees, helping them viscerally understand which jobs they should be preparing for — and helping educators see firsthand which skills they need to teach.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Here’s what I believe with everything I have: \u003Cstrong>the future doesn’t belong exclusively to the Stanfords and Harvards of the world.\u003C\u002Fstrong> As AI dismantles the “sage on stage” model, anyone can learn anything, become intelligent, and become wise.
